Meteora are a unique beauty geological phenomenon and an important monument of Orthodoxy. It is the largest and most important after the Mount Monastic complex in Greece. The giant rocks of Meteora dominate imposing in Kalambaka among Mount Koziaka and Antiochia, causing awe to anyone who observes them.
Today climbers from all over the world come to Meteora, to confront these with the giant rocks. UNESCO has characterized Meteora as a “preserved and protected monument of humanity”. The Greek state as a “place of sanctuary, unaltered and inviolable”.
Nowadays there are six live, ranging and renovated monasteries in Meteora, which welcomed their pilgrim. He is of Agios Nikolaos, the transformation of Savior or Great Meteoros, Varlaam, Roussani, Holy Trinity and Agios Stefanos. The rest are either refurbished, but without monks, or ruined.
